Patrol

Duties & Responsibilities

The Patrol Division is the largest program, providing the most visible and direct services to the community 24 hours a day. It is considered to be the primary law enforcement function and embraces much more than the act of patrolling. It is defined as a generalized function where officers engage in a wide variety of activities which include:

  • Answering calls for service
  • Crime prevention
  • Conducting initial criminal investigations
  • Enforcing traffic laws
  • General public presence
  • Investigating accidents
  • Responding to emergencies

The Patrol Division handles many urgent situations including:

  • Bomb threats and suspicious packages
  • Car accidents
  • Criminal complaints (prowlers, shoplifters, stalkers, etc)
  • Domestic disputes and violence
  • DUI- and drug-related incidents
  • Emergencies
  • Hazardous road reports (fallen trees, wires, etc)
  • Medical emergencies
  • Missing persons reports
  • Neighbor disputes
  • Residential and commercial burglary alarms
