How does an expansion tank work?: Most water systems today have a backflow preventer, a water meter with a check valve, or a check valve in the system which creates a closed loop system. When the water in your water heater heats up, it expands with no place to go except through the pressure relief valve. An expansion tank is installed on the cold water side to provide a reservoir for the expanding water. The water can safely be stored in the tank until its release. Example Link:

1. How do I get water service?: Applications for water service are available to download at the link below, or at Village Hall. Completed applications must be submitted in person with valid identification and $100 deposit at the Water Office located at 2520 N. Center Street. Deposits are payable by cash, check or money order; the Village is unable to accept credit or debit cards. Water Application

2. Water Service - Tenant / Landlord Letter?: If you are a tenant or a landlord there must be a copy of the Tenant / Landlord letter on file for water service to be established. Tenant / Landlord Letter

3. When is my water bill due?: Water bills are mailed on the 1st of every month, and are due by the 15th of every month.

(C) Using services without paying. -- Any person using utility services from the village without paying therefor or who shall be found guilty of breaking the seal of any meter or appurtenances or bypass any meter, shall be guilty of violating this code and, upon conviction, shall be fined a sum as provided in § 10.99.
(F) Failure to receive bill. -- Failure to receive a bill shall not excuse a customer from his or her obligation to pay within the time specified. Should the Department be unable to bill a customer for services used during any month, the following billing shall include the charges for services used during the unbilled month.

4. How do I pay my water bill?: The Village of Maryville offers several options for payment of your water bill.
• AUTO PAY: The Village’s newest and easiest free payment option! With Auto-Pay your payment is directly withdrawn from an authorized account on the due date specified. An account statement will still be mailed to you, but you will no longer have to worry about writing a check.
• FCB BANKS now accept water payments: You must have your water bill stub present to make your utility payment.
• E-PAY online payments at www.vil.maryville.il.us: E-Pay accepts Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.
• VILLAGE HALL: Cash, check or Money Order payments are accepted in person during normal business hours, or you may use our after hour drive-up drop box. The Village of Maryville is unable to accept credit or debit card payments, nor can we accept payment over the phone.
• US POSTAL SERVICE: Payments may be mailed to Maryville Water Dept, 2520 N Center, Maryville, IL 62062.

6. Is trash service included in my Maryville utility bill?: No. The Village does not provide trash service. You must contact Republic Services at (618)-656-6883 to set up a trash service account. A link has been provided to Republic Services below. Republic Services
